A hand-built sculptural orb in black clay, grown slowly through coiling, careful drying, and hours of hand work. I cut small apertures into the body, then pressed and coaxed the clay outward to form each rounded rise. Over five months the piece found its balance, true to my first vision yet shaped by the clay’s own will. A light frost finish was added at the end to suggest weathering, to catch the high points, and to reveal the grit within the body.
The form feels unearthed rather than manufactured, organic and almost otherworldly, like an undiscovered creature rising from the sea. It invites you to rotate it and live with its changing silhouette, shifting from star to urchin to celestial body depending on the light. As a centrepiece it brings quiet drama to a table, console, or plinth, and it rewards close viewing with layered texture and subtle tonal variation.
