Accretion II

Up close the surface has a fine, porous quality, like cooled stone — reading differently depending on how the light moves across it.

Built in grogged clay, coiled into two half-spheres and joined. At leather hard, holes were cut into the surface and the mounds were built back out using smaller coils. The clay was dried in phases, with rotation and rests between sessions to keep the form from weakening.

Fired with black underglaze. A stucco cement mix with black pigment was brushed into the surface to create a matte finish with fine pore-like texture.
