Accretion III

The most responsive to light of the Accretion series — tones shift across the surface and shadows do much of the work. It has warmth, but still carries depth, and changes character depending on where it sits.

Built in black clay as two coiled half-spheres, then joined. While leather hard, holes were cut and smaller coils used to form the mounds. The structure was fragile at that stage, so the piece was dried slowly in stages and rotated regularly to reduce stress.

Fired as black clay, then finished with a stucco cement mix and three separate colour additives — painted and brushed to build tonal variation that works strongly with shadow.
